How Are Background Checks Done?
Overview
Background checks are an important part of the process to ensure compliance and safety when bidding on shifts. This article outlines how background checks are conducted, what to expect during the process, and what happens if there are any issues with the results.
Background Check Process
-
Credential Upload and Verification
- Before bidding on shifts, you must upload your credentials (e.g., licenses, certifications) and have them verified.
-
Prompt for Background Check
- Once verified, you can start bidding on shifts.
- If a shift requires a background check, you will be prompted to complete one during the bidding process.
- At this point, you can choose to proceed or decline.
-
Completing the Background Check
- If you choose to proceed, follow the on-screen instructions to submit your information for the background check.
- Quinable uses a third-party background check provider to process these checks.
Timeline for Results
-
Instant Results:
- If your background check is clean, results are typically returned instantly, and you can proceed with the shift.
-
Further Investigation:
- If there are items on your background check requiring further review, the third-party provider may need additional time.
- This can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on the nature of the investigation.
If Issues Are Found
-
Pre-Adverse Action Notice
- If the background check identifies a derogatory item, you will receive a pre-adverse action notice via email.
- This notice gives you 7 days to contest the results.
-
How to Contest the Results:
- Provide the required documentation to the background check provider.
- Work directly with the provider to resolve the issue.
-
Final Adverse Action
- If no action is taken within the 7-day window, a final adverse action notice will be sent, and your Quinable account will be deactivated.
Relevant Laws
The background check process complies with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), which governs how background checks are conducted and how individuals are notified of adverse findings. Key points include:
- Pre-Adverse Action Notice: Ensures you are informed of potential negative findings and given an opportunity to respond.
- Final Adverse Action Notice: Confirms any decision based on unresolved findings and provides closure to the process.
For more details on your rights under the FCRA, visit the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Consumer Rights page.
