Pay Stubs and Tax Documents for Independent Contractors
Overview
As an independent contractor, you have flexibility and control over your work. However, this also means that pay stubs and tax documents like Form W-2 are not generated for your earnings. This article explains why pay stubs aren’t provided, how your income is reported, and where to find details about your payments.
Why Pay Stubs Are Not Generated
Unlike employees, independent contractors operate under different terms:
- Work Flexibility:
- You decide when, where, and for how much you work based on the bids you place and accept.
- Earnings:
- Your earnings are calculated based on the jobs you complete.
- Quinable does not withhold taxes or apply deductions to your payments.
- Tax Reporting:
- Instead of receiving a Form W-2, your income is reported annually on Form 1099-NEC.
- This document summarizes your earnings and is used for tax purposes.
Accessing Your Earnings Details
To view your earnings:
- Open the Quinable app and navigate to the Earnings section.
- Here, you can review completed jobs, payment amounts, and your payment history in detail.
- This provides a clear record of your income, similar to what a pay stub would offer.
Requesting Your Form 1099-NEC
Your Form 1099-NEC is provided annually and reflects all your earnings for the year. You can use this document to file your taxes.
- When: Forms 1099-NEC are typically distributed by January 31 for the previous year.
- How: You will receive it via email to your registered email address on file.
- Who: The form is email from 3rd Party Tax Preparation Company called Track1099
